Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept, a liquid hydrogen powered test car that signals the next phase in Toyota’s journey towards carbon neutrality through motorsport. The concept made its debut at the H2 Village during the 93rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, highlighting the brand’s growing commitment to alternative fuels.
Based on the GR010 HYBRID Hypercar currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the GR LH2 Racing Concept is Toyota’s most advanced hydrogen prototype to date. It builds on previous hydrogen projects such as the hydrogen engine Corolla in Japan’s Super Taikyu series and the GR Yaris H2, which has completed demonstration runs in the World Rally Championship.
This new concept car reinforces Toyota’s vision of hydrogen not only as a clean fuel source but also as a credible option for high performance racing. By adopting a liquid hydrogen system, the GR LH2 aims to accelerate technological progress throughout the hydrogen ecosystem, from production to practical application on track.
Revealed with special liveries that honour four decades of Toyota’s involvement at Le Mans, the GR LH2 symbolises a bridge between the brand’s storied racing heritage and its sustainable ambitions for the future. Track testing will begin shortly, providing crucial data to refine hydrogen technology and strengthen partnerships that advance zero emissions motorsport and mobility more broadly.
